My Favorite NYC Eats
Getting to live in New York for seven weeks was one of the coolest experiences I have ever had. New York is full of skyscrapers, taxi cabs, dreamers, and (most importantly) amazing food! I am definitely what you would consider a “foodie” and I thought it would be fun to share with all of you some of my favorite NYC eats that you could also enjoy during your next trip to New York!
Nothing says New York more than a bagel for breakfast. Grab a rainbow bagel for your breakfast sandwich and you will complete the experience even more. Bagel Shop Bakery is located on the corner of 93rd Street and 3rd Avenue on the Upper East Side. This was probably my favorite breakfast bagel that I had while I was in New York. They also have many other options to choose from if you don’t want a sandwich. Choose from a plethora of toppings and spreads to go with any flavor of bagel you like. If you find yourself in the Upper East Side near 3rd Ave. I would definitely recommend hitting it up.
I LOVE DONUTS! And New York is filled with many amazing donut shops to choose from. My favorite donut shop in New York would have to be Doughnut Plant. They have so many different flavors to choose from that it’s impossible to only buy one. Luckily I went with a group of people and was able to try multiple flavors. But the novelty of the Doughnut Plant is their rose shaped and rose flavored donut. I love rose flavored things so it was an easy decision for me to make. But even if you aren’t a fan of rose flavored food there are plenty more amazing flavors waiting for you to try.
Many of you are probably familiar with the famous chef known as Guy Fieri. But not everyone knows that he has a restaurant in NYC called Guy’s American Kitchen & Bar. The food is pretty good but the two items on the menu that exceed expectations are the wings and the garlic fries. In my opinion the rest of the food tastes like any other nice burger joint, but the wings and fries are phenomenal!
Having served my mission in Taiwan and learned to speak Mandarin Chinese, one of the places I was most excited to visit was Chinatown! It was so much fun to be back in that type of environment and even use my Mandarin skills to make sure the drinks we were ordering didn’t actually have tea in them. I don’t remember the exact shop we got our drinks from but it was one of the many bubble tea shops that you can find there. The trick to knowing if they have actual tea in them or not is to just make sure you get simple fruit juice flavors. I got watermelon and it was super good!
Whoever decided to put waffles and ice cream together is my new hero! Wowfulls is located in SOHO and is the perfect treat to cool you down on a hot summer day. You can create your own combination or order one of their suggested mixes. I got vanilla ice cream (which is colored with pink and blue) with strawberries and chocolate sauce. They even put two pieces of Pocky into each dessert. This is definitely one of the places you’ll want to put towards the top of your list.
Two words: Shake Shack. Oh my goodness! The Shake Shack addiction is real. I don’t know why but their burgers and fires and shakes are so good! Make sure you stop by the original Shake Shack across from the Flat Iron (at dusk) for the coolest Shake Shack experience that you’ll ever have!
If you love hot dogs as much as I do then you will love Kings of Kobe – located on 9th Ave. near Times Square. Putting a new spin on the American classic, Kings of Kobe adds flavors like lemon zest, blue cheese dressing, caramelized apples, and even cream cheese. Their combinations may sound strange at first but they are really creative and taste delicious.
Black Tap was my favorite place to eat during my entire trip. Located in SOHO and best known for their novelty milk shakes Black Tap certainly does not disappoint. The burgers are also amazing! I got the BBQ one with onion rings and bacon on top and it was one of the best burgers I’ve ever had.
Also located in SOHO is a chocolate shop called L.A. Burdick. This is the perfect place to visit on a cold day when you need some hot chocolate. This hot chocolate is so rich that you need a glass of water to help get it all down. But it is the best hot chocolate ever! They also have really good frozen hot chocolate for when the weather gets warm.
If you follow social media accounts such as New York Bucket List or New Fork City, chances are that you’ve seen posts about DŌ. They serve cookie dough like ice cream and have so many fun flavors to eat! It was a huge hit with me and all of my friends and is one of those places that you have to try.
My favorite food in the whole world is pizza. And New York is the perfect place for cheap yet delicious slices to eat. There are so many different pizza places to choose from and you really can’t go wrong with whichever one you choose to go to.
What are some of your favorite places to eat?
